DEATHNOTES is a source for writings and discussions on the manga series Death Note, written by Ohba Tsugumi and drawn by Obata Takeshi. We take an analytical approach in exploring the literary and visual aspects of this work to provide another side to the fandom.

02.05.07 :: New essay today, by setsuna, entitled Mr. "Raito" is Mr. Wrong. Check it out!

18.04.07 :: A bunch of rolling updates today; Andy Kayen composed a very thorough paper on Gothic Elements in Death Note, which I will be posting here gradually. I encourage you to check it out!
-Sections 1-3 and 4.1-4.2 are up.

28.02.07 :: First update of the new year, on Yagami Light's birthday! Posted Watching the Detective Watch Light by nobutterflies; as usual, it is a PDF file.

23.11.06 :: Fairly large update today. nobutterflies's newest piece, Reading Death Note as a cautionary tale, is up; you will need Adobe Reader to view the PDF file. She has also made some alterations to her previous essays, All for Love - Women in Death Note (PDF) and Names and Aliases in Death Note (PDF). Additionally, I have finally updated the Essays section to list expandable short descriptions of each hosted essay; I still have not listed spoiler chapters, but I am working on it. Thanks!

30.08.06 :: Two updates in two days; that must be a record. I'm going to start keeping a few update entries on the main page, as you can see. Today, I've posted Md's essay on Light and the effect of the Death Note: The Power to Kill. Go read it!

18.08.06 :: Uploaded a new essay today; it's a name analysis by nobutterflies: Names and Aliases in Death Note. (As it's a PDF file, you will need to download Adobe Reader in order to view.) This one's nice and visual, and excellently organized-- with full citations! Check it, read it, ponder it, discuss it, and apply it-- to every aspect of your daily life.
