original text

SPOILER WARNING. Plot and/or ending details follow.

I started doing this for Kureno and decided that I might as well give Mello some love, too. So, I made a list of all of Mello's appearances in Death Note, and made an attempt so summarize each. I figure it'll come in handy for making icons or just for keeping my Mello-fu nice and accurate. I also want to list the chapters he's mentioned or discussed in, but I'll have to go back and do that later (unless, of course, people want to provide me with exact Chapter numbers ^^). I think I got all his actual appearances and a couple of major mentions, though. Let me know if you spot something that's off or missing.

Volume 7: Zero
Page 59.
Roger summons Mello and Near to his office to tell them that L has died.

Page 60.
Mello coordinates the kidnapping of the director of NPA, who later dies. Mello then gives the order to kidnap Yagami Sayu.

Page 61.
Remembering how he was constantly being surpassed by Near, Mello vows to be number one.

Volume 8: Target [Mello is featured on the cover of this volume]
Page 63.
Yagami Soichiro is forced onto a flight to L.A. Mello contacts him and says he'll exchange Sayu for the Death Note.

Page 64.
[Mello appears on the title page with Soichiro] Mello obtains the Death Note from Soichiro, and gives Sayu back to her father.

Page 65.
[no actual appearance--flashback only] Near comes to the conclusion that Mello was the one who kidnapped Sayu.

Page 66.
[Mello and others appear on the title page, but Mello makes no actual appearance in the chapter] Near tells Light that Mello is responsible for the kidnapping incident. Light obtains sketches of Mello and Near from the Wammy House.

Page 67.
Mello calls Soichiro, fishing for additional information about the Death Note. Near tells Light about Mello's personality and possible motives. Mello threatens the President of the United States with the Death Note.

Page 68.
Mello demands access to satellite surveillance and financial support from the President.

Page 69.
[Mello appears on the title page] Light and the President coordinate an attack on Mello's headquarters, but the Shinigami Sidou tears off the mens' helmets, enabling them to be killed. Mello watches from within the headquarters and mentions plans to escape to a new safe house.

Page 70.
[color image of Mello, Light, and Near on the title page] Sidou reflects on how Mello forced him to obey his orders in exchange for getting his Death Note back. Mello and the other mafia members escape to a new safe house.

Volume 9: Contact
Page 71.
[color image of Mello and others on the title page, but no actual appearance in the chapter]

Page 73.
NPA raids Mello's new headquarters, and Soichiro, who now possesses the Death Note and Shinigami eyes, sees Mello's true name: Mihael Keehl.

Page 74.
Soichiro orders Mello to turn himself in, but Mello refuses. Soichiro is gunned down by a mafia member, but NPA corners Mello. Mello chooses to blow up the entire hideout rather than be arrested.

Page 76.
Mello holds Lidner at gunpoint and forces his way into SPK's headquarters.

Page 77.
Mello confronts Near. Near gives back the picture he had of Mello from the orphanage, and in return, Mello tells him about the existence of the Shinigami and that some rules in the Death Note are false.

Page 78.
[no actual appearance] Mello contacts Mogi.

Page 79.
Mello orders Mogi to come to New York. He guides him into SPK's headquarters and tells Near to get information from Mogi while he listens through the cell phone.

Volume 10: Sweep [Mello, Near, and Light are featured on the cover of this volume]
Page 80.
[Mello and others featured on poster included with the Jump issue] Kira supporters attack SPK headquarters. Near tells Mello that SPK are escaping before cutting contact with him.

Page 83.
Lidner informs Mello that Mogi and Aizawa are returning to L.A. Mello and his new partner, Matt, follow them and discover Misa. Based on Lidner's information, Mello concludes that Misa was once the second Kira.

Page 85.
Mello continues to monitor Misa while Matt watches NPA.

Page 86.
[Mello appears on the title page] Based on Misa's conversations, Mello comes to the conclusion that Yagami Light is the second L, Kira.

Page 87.
Mello follows Mogi and Misa to Japan and orders Matt to do the same.

Volume 11
Page 89.
[Mello, Light, and Near are featured on the cover of the issue of Weekly Jump that contains this chapter. Mello also appears on the title page, but makes no actual appearance in the chapter.]

Page 97.
Mello appears as part of Takada's escort.

Page 98.
Matt fires a smoke bomb at Takada's guards, and in the confusion, Mello kidnaps Takada.

Volume 12 (NOT YET RELEASED) *
Page 99.
Takada kills Mello with a piece of the Death Note she had hidden in her bra, and then sets herself and her surroundings on fire.

Page 100.
[no actual appearance] The burnt remains of Mello's body were found, but they have yet to be identified.

Page 103.
[no actual appearance] Near tells Light that Mello is to thank for Near's win over Light.

Page 104.
[no actual appearance--flashack only] Near explains that because of Mello suddenly kidnapping Takada, he discovered that the Note he and SPK had tampered with was a fake, and he was able to obtain the real Note. With Mello's aggression and Near's coolness combined, they were able to surpass L and get evidence against Kira.

* I'm not sure how they will allot the chapters into Volume 12 so I may have broken the chapters in the wrong places.
